Make your webinar interactive (and learn who your leads actually are)

A webinar where the audience just watches is a recording with extra steps. Here's how marketers use live polls to keep attendees engaged and quietly qualify them at the same time.

A demand-gen marketer we talked to was getting decent webinar sign-ups and terrible attention: people registered, joined, then alt-tabbed to their inbox. The content was fine. The format was a monologue. Adding three live moments per session pulled attention back - and, as a side effect, told sales exactly who in the room was worth a follow-up call.

Tip

You do not need to be technical to follow this guide. Every step uses plain buttons in PollsLive - no coding, no app install for your audience.

Engagement and qualification are the same poll

A poll that keeps people watching can also tell you something useful about them. "What's your biggest challenge with X?" keeps the room engaged *and* segments your audience. "Where are you in evaluating a solution?" is a polite, opt-in qualification question that feels like part of the show, not a form.

A simple three-poll structure

  1. Minute 2 - an easy opener. "What made you join today?" Low effort, gets every attendee tapping before attention drifts.
  2. Mid-session - a pain-point poll. Surfaces the room's top challenge live, which you then address on the spot. Engagement and content, fused.
  3. Near the end - an intent question. "Want a follow-up / a demo / just the slides?" The answers route straight to your follow-up list.

The three polls, on a real webinar

When Nadia, a demand-gen marketer, restructured her monthly webinar this way, the mid-session pain-point poll did double duty - it kept 200 people watching *and* told her product team what the market was actually struggling with:

Then, near the end, the intent question - the polite, opt-in one that feels like the audience steering the session rather than filling in a form:

A personalised demo23% · 41
Send me the slides + recording44% · 79

41 demo requests + 43 trial starts, exported to CSV and handed to sales the same afternoon.

"The intent poll out-converts the registration form," Nadia said. "People who'd never fill in 'request a demo' will tap it when it's one option among four, mid-flow."

Keep it on one screen

Attendees join the live session from the same device they're watching on - no second app, no login. You drop the join QR or link in the webinar chat, and results animate on your shared screen. Afterward, export responses to CSV (Pro) and hand the intent answers to sales, or push the results into your stack via integrations.

The best qualification question doesn't feel like qualification - it feels like the audience getting to steer the session.
