Live feature prioritization: let the room rank it for you
Product managers spend hours debating roadmap order in rooms where the loudest voice wins. Here's how to run live prioritization and user-research sessions where everyone's input counts equally.
A PM we talked to ran roadmap planning the usual way: a spreadsheet, a two-hour meeting, and a decision that mostly reflected whoever argued hardest. She started collecting the ranking live instead - from the team in the planning session, and separately from a panel of users - and the conversation shifted from opinions to a number everyone could see.

Rank candidates, don't debate them
Put the feature candidates on screen and have the room rank them. Ranking forces trade-offs in a way "thumbs up if you like it" never does - everyone has to decide what they'd give up. In thirty seconds you have a prioritized list instead of an hour of circular discussion.
Use it in two rooms
- Internally, at planning: the team ranks candidates live, then you discuss only where the spread is wide - not the things everyone already agrees on.
- With users, in a research session or advisory call: ask an open-ended "what's the most painful part of X?" and group the answers into themes live, so the real problem shows up before you propose solutions.
- A confidence scale - "How sure are we this is worth building?" - flushes out quiet doubt that a yes/no would hide.
What the ranking looked like
